Mountain Biking in Tignes The 4 Best Trails in the Bike Park to Try This Summer

Are you looking for the best mountain bike trails in Tignes this summer?

Discover our selection of the best runs, our tips for the right gear, and all the benefits reserved for Alpapart customers.
The ski lifts are open from June 27 to August 30.

Summary

1 – Head up high: the ski lifts are open

Tignes is known for its snow-covered slopes and breathtaking views. But in the summer, the mountain takes on a whole new look—and becomes a whole new playground. From June 27 to August 30, the ski lifts reopen their doors to welcome a whole new crowd: riders and mountain bikers.
Two interconnected ski areas, Tignes Val d’Isère, offer a total of 220 km of trails and 46 routes to explore. Plenty to keep you busy this summer.

Four chairlifts are in operation to serve the ski area:

  • Palafour Chairlift
  • Paquis Chairlift
  • Tufs Chairlift
  • Fresse Chairlift

💡Good news for families: children are welcome on board, provided they are at least 1,10 m to go mountain biking.

For the latest schedules and rates, everything is available on the official website.

2 – The trails: something for every skill level

The resort offers a great variety of trails, ranging from challenging black runs to inviting blue runs, as well as red runs that live up to their reputation. And for those who want to explore without using the lifts, e-MTB loops are also available for self-guided rides. Fun without the wait—we’re all for it.

All trails are mapped on the Bike Park Tignes app, which can be downloaded from Google Play or the Apple Store. Because a great ride starts with some planning—even from your couch.

3 – Our Favorite Trails at the Tignes Bike Park

  • Smoothie – The perfect way to get your legs moving (without breaking them)

Level: Green – Beginner | Elevation gain: –460 meters | Length: 5.9 km

Almost 6 km of downhill, no tricky sections, and a name that says it all. Smoothie is the trail you take when your legs are still cold and your brain hasn’t quite decided if it wants to be there yet. You have to earn it by taking the Palafour chairlift, and trust me, the view alone is worth the trip. Once in the saddle, the terrain does the work: wide, rolling, with no nasty surprises. Ideal for finding your footing, getting your feel back, or simply reminding your body what “mountain biking” means after eight months of winter. Beginners will find a real playground here with no pressure. Others use it to warm up their legs before tackling the rest of the mountain.

  • Tarentaise Airline – The new route to try this summer

New – Level: Blue – Beginner | Elevation gain: –130 meters | Length: 1.4 km

Accessible via the Fresse chairlift, this new 1.4-km blue run was designed in collaboration with Commencal (a leading mountain bike brand). Expect a smooth, fast ride with perfectly shaped banked turns.

A fun and incredibly smooth trail, just as enjoyable for improving your skills as it is for stringing together runs.

  • Rocky Trail – Nature, panoramic views, and a few close calls

New – Level: Red – Advanced | Elevation gain: –300 meters | Length: 4.3 km

For experienced riders with an explorer’s spirit, this enduro-style trail deliberately veers away from the hustle and bustle of the resort to offer you a pristine natural setting and breathtaking views of the dam. Accessible via the Palafour chairlift, it’s a challenging yet fun descent that’s best ridden cleanly from top to bottom.

  • Gypsy – The Life-Size Roller Coaster

New – Level: Black – Expert | Elevation gain: –240 meters | Length: 2.56 km

Expert level, 2.56 km of pure thrills, with the option to follow up with the Black Metal run for the most daring. Accessible via the Tovière gondola or the Tufs chairlift, Gypsy is the run that will make you question your sanity… and come back the next day for another run. Thrills, terrain, and variety: it’s the whole package.

💡 GOOD DEAL: The Bike Park is included in the map My Tignes, with whom we partner. All the more reason to keep it safely tucked away in your pocket.

4 – Our tips for getting the right gear

Because the right gear can mean the difference between a great day and a real scare.

Tignes – Andy Parant

Helmets: required in the Bike Park. Full-face helmets for challenging trails, lighter ones for casual rides—it’s up to you to choose based on your confidence level (and daring).

The hydration pack: staying well-hydrated during a downhill ride is non-negotiable. The built-in water bladder is a real luxury… although stopping at a bar terrace is still a perfectly acceptable option for rehydrating.

The back-to-back: for those ready to tackle technical trails.

Elbow and knee pads: lightweight yet effective protection to help you tackle black runs with confidence.

Our partner Intersport, located closest to your accommodations (Intersport Tignes Lac or Intersport Tignes Rosset), will be happy to advise you on all this gear as soon as you arrive. And here’s some good news: Alpapart guests enjoy in-store discounts—now’s the time to take advantage of them and get properly equipped!

💡 A word of caution: in the mountain pastures, it’s not uncommon to come across herds accompanied by patous (livestock guardian dogs). Don’t panic, but slow down, stay calm, and give them a wide berth. The mountains are for everyone to enjoy.

5 – Why are our resorts ideal for mountain biking in Tignes

When you come to ski, the logistics matter just as much as the quality of the slopes. That’s why staying at an Alpapart residence is so convenient.

1. Proximity to the slopes: no endless morning transfers. Our residences in Almes 1 and Almes 2 offer direct access to the Wonderboisses blue run, and our Denali provides access to the red Boisses Vegas run. Drop off your bags, hop on your bike.

2. Lift access with the My Tignes card: we’re partners with the My Tignes card. When you book at one of our residences, you’ll receive a discount code via email to purchase it at a special rate. A real perk, right from your first ride.

3. Bike storage: Our residences are equipped with secure lockers where you can safely store your bikes between sessions.

4. Convenient shopping: After a busy day of sports, it’s nice to be able to stock up on supplies without having to go out of your way. Restaurants, grocery stores—everything is nearby.

The bonus: awell-deserved rest
: because proper recovery is just as much a part of performance as the activity itself. Our accommodations are designed so that when you come home, you can take off your gear and truly unwind.

Have a great ride, everyone, and above all… stay on your wheels!
